CAUCUS AND WORKING GROUP REPORT BACKS:
Democratize The Economy/Jan: Successful Street Theatre yesterday in front of Bank of America. 10 people attended. Occupy Corps will be 2-4 Xs a month. No info fliers but maybe done in future. Debt is a big issue for OA to focus on.
Money Out of Politics/Lesley: 99 banners were dropped. Banner march in Foley Square/NYC on 9/16 covered by Democracy Now. Kickstarter funds were raised to film banner drop. MOP may or may not need $350 promised by GA–depends on circumstances. MOP meets Tues 6:30PM.
Fundraising/Dan: Fundraising meets tomorrow 12noon at OA space. Plans to discuss multiple fundraising strategies. Chris: We are trying to get money through capitalist system. Instead we should change way people get money. Suggested we look into finding a local factory that is failing and assist workers to take it over and run it themselves.
WORKING GROUP PROPOSALS:
Fundraising/ Jan: Wants to show “Schindler’s Lists” at OA space on Oct 28. Will be a donation requested to cover cost of food and refreshments. Passed by consensus. 2 stand-asides. 1 articulated: “Don’t think it will attract many people because movie is too well known.”
OTHER BUSINESS:
Joe L: Going to Pakistan as part of UNAC peace mission on Oct 1. Fundraising dessert reception tomorrow, Bethlehem Town Hall, 3 PM.
Will be anti-war vigil & speak-out in Dana Park, (Madison Ave./Lark St.) Oct 3, 6PM. Endorsed by OA. Anti-War march in NYC on Saturday, 10/6 at State Office Bldg in Harlem.
Marc: Internet connection at indoor space is not working. Appears bill was not paid. Marc will follow up on this w/Financial.
Marc will try to restart Environmental WG.
Doug: Anti-war movie, ” The War You Don’t See” sponsored by Solidarity Committee, tonight (9/22) at Unitatrian Church, Albany at 7:30 PM. Free.
Dan: Is directing Howard Zinn’s “The People Speak.” Needs more actors to fill parts. Contact Dan via Facebook if you know of available actors. Performance date, 11/9, Delmar Reformed Church.
Dan attended Labor Working Group meeting in NYC on 9/15. (Occupy Anniversary). More interaction between Occupy and Labor. OA should actively support local labor struggles.
Jan: Harvest Fest tomorrow, 9/23, Washington Park Lakehouse. 12Noon-3PM. Come and help pass out OA fliers.
Marc: Re: Wednesday marches–Parti-Quebecois won election in Quebec & rolled back tuition increases. Quebec students are continuing to protest for free education.
CTU settled strike. Desmond Hotel settled dispute. South African miners settled strike with wage increase.
