General Assembly 8/23/12
20+ Participants Present – Quorum Reached
Nine Proposals Were Proposed:
- Proposal #1: Lesley proposed that we reduce quorum to pass proposals from 15 to 10 people, with a strong suggestion that public notice be given prior to bringing any significant proposal.
Outcome = Consensus Reached / Passed
- Proposal #2: Jan proposed that Occupy Albany GA endorse a call to begin regular actions this fall targeting corporations.
Outcome = Consensus Reached / Passed
- Proposal #3: Leslely proposed that up to $500 be authorized to buy materials for the Money Out of Politics WG banner drop on 9/17.
Outcome = Consensus Reached on a compromise to allocate up to $350.00
- Proposal #4: Alice proposed that the Health Care for the 99% WG start meeting again and plan events for the fall.
Outcome = Tabled, Consensus not Required
- Proposal #5: Doug proposed that Occupy Albany GA endorse the labor day picnic on 9/3 and the labor parade on 9/7.
Outcome = Consensus Reached / Passed
- Proposal #6: Vicki proposed that Occupy Albany members should distribute a call to action for OA’s one year anniversary at the Labor Day Picnic.
Outcome = Consensus Reached with the caveat the people could send Vicki edits, suggestions, changes / Passed
- Proposal #7: Brendan proposed that $207.00 be allocated to reimburse him for legal and travel expenses incurred because of his arrest at the Occupy National Gathering in Philadelphia.
Outcome = Consensus Reached / Passed
- Proposal #8: Mark proposed reducing the number of General Assemblies from three per week.
Outcome = Consensus was reached after extensive discussion and temp checks to keep the Saturday GA and to consolidate the Tuesday and Thursday GA’s into a single weekday GA on Wednesdays. So that the GA schedule, beginning the week of September 3rd, will be for two GA’s per week: (i) Wednesday at 6pm, and (ii) Saturday at 3pm.
- Proposal #9: Sue proposed that Occupy Albany GA endorse a proclamation from Peace Action that is being brought before the Albany County Legislature to end the war in Afghanistan and shift the money being spent on it to social spending at home.
Outcome = Consensus Reached / Passed
