CAUCUS/WORKING GROUP PROPOSALS: NONE
OTHER BUSINESS:
LYNNE J: BACKGROUND: Concerned about “curfew”/eviction at Academy Park and DGS effort to throw us out of Washington Park during GA on 6/28/12. Lynne requested copy of Academy Park regs under FOIL (Freedom of Info Law).
Lynne J Proposal: That OA ask Common Council to remove curfew in Academy Park.
Discussion: Background on Re-Occupation WG & its efforts this Spring; legal case about eviction still pending & maybe we should wait to see what happens with that; unlikely we’d get City cooperation; concerns about City trying to freeze OA out of Washington Park; City under pressur from Gov 1% to keep us out of Park(s); Someone heard that the head of DGS/Parks told to leave Washington Park on 6/28 but no one was sure about this, (COLIN might know). GAIL reported that legal WG was going to write to the City.
LYNNE’s Revised proposal: OA people should go to next Monday Common Council meeting and complain about the restrictions on Freedom of Speech/Assembly.
Discussion: No proposal needed to go to Council meeting (plus we had no quorum). People can arrive before 7PM & sign up to speak during public comment period. Temp check was taken and all but 1 person was in favor. That person stated we should wait until next Council meeting when we could get more people there including more people who were at 6/28 GA. We also discussed getting more people at Wash. Pk for next Saturday’s GA.

JOE : we should prepare to deal with the City trying to throw us out of Washington Park; Coordinate with Legal WG. MEGAN H: We should also alert news media and try to amke sure they are present.
DAN K: Looking to start a working group to deal improve communication/reduce inter-personal problems. No start date or time as yet but coordinating with other people to get this started. DOUG: Said we should contact people who are no longer here–find out why they left.
JOE: Said it’s important to deal with conflicts but feels meaning people left movement because things did not change (socially/politically) as fast as they expected.
